Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that political parties, either the Awami League or the BNP, must not make any demand to the Election Commission or EC.
He made the statement in reaction to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s recent call asking EC to “not to pay heed to the government.”
“Listen to what the people are saying, have talks with political parties and act accordingly,” she said on Saturday.
A day later, Quader said: “Awami League does not have any illogical demand, BNP might have.”
He was addressing a programme of Monipur High School and College in Dhaka.
The ruling party will request the commission to not to pay heed to the demands of any party and to follow the constitution only to hold a fair election, he said.
Quader, Minister for road, transport and bridges, spoke against BNP’s demand to withdraw cases against their leaders to create a congenial environment for election.
“Our MPs are also facing cases. One is in jail; some are regularly appearing before the court for hearings. But we will not make such demand as there is no link between cases and election environment.”
